He is reticent and shy, but he makes the audience flock to the theatres. Vijay`s films take a great opening and work purely on his star charisma and larger-than-life image.
It`s not that Vijay doesn`t have his lows. In fact, even his lows get more mileage. Such as Vettaikaran, which was a glorious failure. Or Sura, which will be forever known as a gargantuan dud.
Nevertheless, Vijay has always kicked back with a vengeance and asserted his superiority. Unlike other stars who are constantly revamping their career and experimenting with genres, Vijay still delivers the biggest opening of the season with his formulaic, predictable mass entertainers.
That`s star power for you. Method acting be damned. We love him because he is a genuine superstar. But it irks us that he isn`t really taking cinema forward. However, the question remains if his fans will embrace him if he shed his current image. We can only wonder.
